Methil or in central Java called wiwit, is a tradition of Java community, especially East Java which until now still maintained. Although it is rare, but there are people who still preserve it. Methil is a traditional ceremony held before the rice harvest.

This is a form of gratitude to Dewi Sri (the goddess of fertility and prosperity in the beliefs of ancient Javanese society). This ritual is performed by conducting a prayer together, followed by a meal prepared dish, usually carried out in rice acreage to be harvested.

What makes this ritual unique is, by placing a pack of rice in each corner of the rice field, which will be contested by local children.
By conducting methil rituals, people expect to obtain abundant crops and be given salvation during the harvest period.
